Borderlands 2 US sales put at 1.8m for debut month

2K Games' sequel outstrips its predecessor by 234 per cent

The first month sales for 2K Games' Borderlands 2 sold an estimated 1.82 million copies, according to calculations based on NPD data.

Games sales analyst Anita Frazier said on Thursday that the Borderlands sequel "exceeded the first month's unit sales of the first game which launched in October 2009 by 234 per cent."

This was subsequently calculated at 1.48 million in ales by a number of media outlets, though the calculations have not been explained.

However, in 2009 NPD stated that the first-month US sales figure for Borderlands was about 546,000. It means that the sequel likely reached upwards of 1,8 million sales in the US.

Additional NPD statistics showed that the Xbox 360 outsold PS3 and Wii for the 21st consecutive month.

Meanwhile, September's overall hardware sales performance had dropped by 39 per cent compared to last year.

Total software sales, meanwhile, dropped by 14 per cent year-on-year.
