The Last of Us: American Dreams is four-issue comic prequel

Naughty Dog partners with Dark Horse for comic series and art book

Naughty Dog has announced a comic series for The Last Of Us, which will serve as a prequel to the upcoming post-apocalyptic survival game.

The four-issue series, produced in partnership with Dark Horse, will give readers a deeper insight into the background of Ellie.

Written by Naughty Dog creative director Neil Druckmann, the prequel comic will show how Ellie "has grown up in a postpandemic world, shuttled between military orphanages in one of the last remaining quarantine zones and resigned to the fact that when she's old enough, she'll be channeled into the army or left to fend for herself-until she meets an older girl determined to find a third way out," (thanks IGN).

You'll also see how she came to meet Joel - her partner in crime - and events leading up to the start of Naughty Dog's much-anticipated PS3 game.

Dark Horse is also working on a 'deluxe hardcover' The Last of Us Art Book, which will release alongside the game. It will apparently explore "the characters, the infected humans, and the intricately realized world of the game" in pictures.

The Last of Us is due for release in 2013. Check out 16 stunning minutes of gameplay over here.
