Media swapping service will support variety of games, sports and entertainment apps at launch; iOS and Android edition 'inbound'

Microsoft is to usher in a new era of second-screen entertainment this week with the launch of SmartGlass for Xbox.

The new feature will mix Xbox movies, media, games and video between tablets, smartphones, PCs and consoles. The service will immediately launch with support for Windows 8, the Xbox 360, Windows Phone and the upcoming Surface tablet.

Pawan Bhardwaj, product manager Xbox Live, confirmed to CVG on Monday that Microsoft wants to add a SmartGlass app to iOS and Android devices, though no release date has been set.
