Sony signs UK start-up Wish Studios for new IP

Ex-Buzz and EyePet devs to make social and motion control games

Sony Computer Entertainment Europe has signed a development deal with a new Brighton, UK-based start-up called Wish Studios.

The studio was founded earlier this year by a number of ex-Sony and Relentless Software staff who worked on the EyePet and Buzz franchises for PlayStation platforms, as well as Kinect Nat Geo TV for Xbox 360.

Wish Studios will develop games and apps for console and mobile platforms, and says it wants to focus on the dev team's heritage in family social gaming and titles that use augmented reality and motion control. The deal with Sony is for a brand new intellectual property.

Wish CEO Caspar Field said: "We are incredibly excited to be working with SCEE. While we can't give away any details about the project, we can say that it's playing beautifully and has enormous potential. Sony continues to show vision and leadership in bringing original, innovative ideas to gamers, a commitment we share at Wish Studios."

SCEE vice president Mick Hocking added: "We love working with creative start-ups like Wish that are passionate about games and hungry to innovate. The guys at Wish are very talented and we look forward to a fruitful relationship together."
