Assassin's Creed 3's multiplayer component will allow players to spend money "to acquire some game items, disregarding your current level".
The game allows players to purchase "Erudito" - named after a mystery group within the game's narrative. The option to purchase them was spotted in the latest PlayStation Store and Xbox Live content updates.
Though it is unclear what the Erudito will take part in, they are available in five denominations ranging from a 20 pack for $0.99 to 925 Eruditos for $19.99.
As noted on the PlayStation Store update, the content is only available from within Assassin's Creed 3; it cannot be purchased from the PlayStation Store.
In September Ubisoft's CEO Alain Martinez said it may be possible for the next generation's full priced retail games to learn from the free-to-play model, as item-based content will benefit the profitability of its games.
