Descent was a classic PC title that featured fully 3D environments, explorable in 360 degrees via a motion sickness-inducing space vessel. A contemporary of Doom, it was a technically impressive game at the time. In 2012 - not so much.
Thanks to a modder though, Descent may be playable in Unreal Engine 3 if he manages to garner enough community spirit to see the project through. Descent to UDK will be a remake of sorts, though as the project's website states, it'll be a "retelling of the original story", with "more diverse gameplay, but with a strong focus on the basics that made Descent great".
At the time of writing, Descent to UDK has attracted overwhelming support from the modding community. Still, visit the website if you want to pitch in, though there's no need for programmers at the moment.
Here's a video of what the modder has achieved so far, followed by footage from the original game. Thanks to Eurogamer for the heads up.
