PS3 receives China Compulsory Certificate approval

Sony edges closer to the Chinese market

Consoles have been banned in China since 2000, with grey market imports being the only way to acquire them. For Sony, it looks like that may be about to change.

According to a report on TechInAsia Sony has received approval for the China Compulsory Certificate, which doesn't guarantee the ability to sell in China, but it does bring Sony closer to that goal.

The certificate was granted in July, and will be valid until 2016.

In another sign that China may be loosening its laws on the sale of game consoles, Nintendo is planning to sell the Nintendo 3DS XL in December.

There has been no official comment or statement from the government regarding the PS3 passing certification in China.

We will update as more news surfaces.
