Resident Evil 6 "has been successful to some degree", according to Capcom.
The game has divided critical and consumer opinion since its early October release, particularly outside of the publisher's native Japan, according to Capcom investors, who recently asked the company to explain its strategy for strengthening the brand overseas.
"Resident Evil 6 continues to generate repeat sales in Japan and overseas," Capcom responded.
"Furthermore, initial shipments set a new record for a Capcom title. So this game has been successful to some degree.
"We therefore believe it is too early to reach a conclusion about how users view this game," Capcom continued. "We always listen carefully to the feedback from users and use this information when developing games."
Last week Capcom cut its full year Resident Evil 6 shipping guidance from seven million units to six million copies.
