Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is Sega's second crack at the kart racing genre and judging from the initial critical reception it seems to have nailed the execution.
This time around Sega's racer is less of a straight Mario Kart clone, attempting to throw a spanner in the works by giving players transforming vehicles and blending ground, sea and air racing into each of its tracks.
Reviews of All Star Racing Transformed have been springing up all over the internet. We've gathered them up and stuck them in a list below.
- IGN: 8.6 - More than just another kart racer, Sonic and All-Stars Racing is a bright, handsome and thoroughly enjoyable ride.
- Eurogamer: 9/10 - Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed is one of those games now, too. It's managed to step out of Mario Kart's shadow, for sure, but the real achievement is one that's going to be much more thrilling for the Sega fans it so eagerly panders to. This manages to be more than just a tribute to the great and good of Sega's past - it does enough to earn its own place alongside them.
- Metro: 7/10 - A superior Mario Kart clone and certainly the best Sega has ever produced, especially in terms of the teary-eyed nostalgia inspired by its endless retro cameos.
- Official Xbox Magazine: 8/10: Finally, a kart racer on Xbox 360 that's actually fun to play
