Hitman Absolution's online pass scrapped

Multiplayer Contracts mode will now be playable free of charge

Square Enix has axed plans for a Hitman Absolution online pass.

The publisher was set to charge players for access to the game's Contracts mode, but the multiplayer game type will now be available free of charge.

Square said in a statement: "We'd actually planned to have this mode accessible via a code in the game's box, but we really want to make it available to anybody that plays the game - so we want to take a new approach.

"If you're in North America you'll see the mode automatically appear in the game menu. If you're elsewhere, you can redeem the code inside the box, or you can simply select the BUY CONTRACTS PASS option. From there, head to the store where CONTRACTS will be free to access."

Square has confirmed a Hitman: Absolution release date of tomorrow, November 20.

In CVG's Hitman Absolution review Andy Hartup says of the latest series entry: "Feels like 'proper' Hitman, mixed with new ideas of varying quality. Crucially, it's great fun, and you'll want to play Absolution through more than once"
