Nintendo has just wrapped up a Japanese Nintendo Direct event which, although light on new announcements, did yield new footage of Pikmin 3, an interesting Google Maps application and a first look at Game & Wario.
The Wii U launches across Japan on Sunday, so company president Satoru Iwata spent the majority of the stream highlighting third-party offerings such as Assassin's Creed 3, Batman: Arkham City and Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
This was followed by the announcement of a dedicated New Super Mario Bros. U YouTube channel with hint and trick videos, a trailer for the Wii U version of Dragon Quest X, details on Nintendo TVii, confirmation that Panorama View will be released next year, and an extensive look at the Google Maps app.
Those hoping for a Pikmin 3 release date will no doubt be disappointed with the vague 2013 window Iwata reiterated, but on the plus side there's a decent chunk of new gameplay footage. Watch the whole thing below.
Nintendo will be holding an North America and European event at 5pm today. Keep your eyes on CVG for full coverage.
