An EA spokesperson has discredited statements claiming Mass Effect 4 will be released in 2014.
The unnamed EA rep told G4 that neither it nor BioWare has provided "any answers to questions from Gamer Syndrome", the original source of the release date.
Earlier this week site Gamer Syndrome reported Mass Effect 4 development started a month or two ago, and said BioWare is planning to reveal more about the game in 2013.
Complicating the matter is a follow-up statement provided after the release date news to Eurogamer, in which EA seemingly verified BioWare was the source of the release date.
Gamer Syndrome has removed the interview and published an apology: "The information provided previously by the author of this post was deemed to be obtained from an inaccurate source and NOT an official Bioware or EA interview response," it reads. "We apologize for the inconvenience."
In November BioWare Montreal revealed Mass Effect 4 will be powered by EA's Frostbite engine, enhanced by systems built for Dragon Age 3. Casey Hudson, executive producer of BioWare's Mass Effect series, also asked fans if Mass Effect 4 should be a prequel or a sequel.
