Ian Livingstone awarded CBE in Queen's New Years Honours

British games industry campaigner 'unbelievably happy'

Eidos life president and industry luminary Ian Livingstone has been recognised as a CBE in the Queen's New Years Honours list.

Livingstone pioneered in the interactive entertainment sector through his Fighting Fantasy series of books. The 'roleplay gamebooks', co-authored by Steve Jackson, were first published in 1982.

Following a successful spell in the game publishing business at Eidos, Livingstone earned the decorated title of 'life president' at the company. He has since become a major and successful campaigner for the UK games industry across a range of topics, from education to tax relief to age certification.

Livingstone said he was "unbelievably happy, proud and delighted to be in the New Year Honours list to be appointed CBE"

The games industry has been active in Britain for more than 40 years, though it is generally considered that only one person central to the sector has received a knighthood; ZX Spectrum pioneer Sir Clive Sinclair.
