No more features to be added as title enters "support phase"

Development work on Microsoft's Age of Empires Online has ended as the title enters its "support phase," developer Gas Powered Games has said.

This means there will be no new content created for the title including no new features and no new civilizations.

There is a small amount of content still in the pipeline that will be released in the next few weeks, but that is all, GPG said on its blog.

"Nothing else changes for players, nothing that currently exists will be removed," it said. "You can still play everything you own, earn EP, and purchase any content you do not currently own. We will still fully maintain and support the game and its players; no one is losing anything that you have earned or bought.

"Our Community team will continue to support the game by way of Community Challenges, streams, contests, PvP tournaments and more."

Age of Empires Online launched in August 2011 following an interesting development stretch, with ex-Ensemble developers (and shuttered creators of the Age series) Robot Entertainment kicking off construction, before Supreme Commander house Gas Powered Games picked it up in 2010.
