Sony confirms PS2 production has ceased worldwide

Happy end for world's most successful games console with 150m units sold

Following news last week that the PS2 has ceased production in Japan, comes confirmation from Sony that the news applies internationally.

Sony confirmed with The Guardian that the end of production will not be exclusive to Japan following reports to that effect last week.

Launched in 2000, the PS2 was in production for 12 years, and sold 150m units globally. Recent reports indicate that Sony's successor to PS3 - codenamed 'Orbis' - is due in 2014.
