Planescape: Torment follow-up is in the works

Classic PC title gets new lease on life

PC classic Planescape: Torment will get a long-awaited follow-up, according to former Interplay boss Brian Fargo.

Speaking to Rock Paper Shotgun, Fargo said the game would not take place in the Planescape world, but rather a new location called Numenera.

Fargo, who is currently working on the Kickstarted Wasteland 2 project with inXile, said the Torment project has been "in motion for quite some time."

"The more we explored the Numenera setting, the clearer it became that it's a natural fit for a Torment game," he said. He explained that the Torment series isn't defined by a specific setting, but rather what distinguishes it from other RPGs.

"We will focus on the same things that made people appreciate PST so much: overturning RPG tropes; a fantastic, unconventional setting; memorable companions; deep thematic exploration of the human condition; heavy reactivity [and] and intensely personal (rather than epic) story."

No release window was offered, though it may be a while: Fargo is still hard at work developing Wasteland 2.
