Gran Turismo 5's best players in televised professional racing tournament

ITV4 to air reality TV show where gamers test their mettle in real-world racing contest

Some of Europe's best Gran Turismo racers have entered the final phase of the annual GT Academy contest - a televised competition where gamers compete for the prize of becoming a professional race car driver.

The grand prize for the overall winner will be a comprehensive driver development programme, ahead of the chance to race a full race-spec Nissan 370Z GT4 car at the Dubai International 24 Hour race in January.

Broadcaster ITV4 has said it will be televising the story of the competition in early February. Six programmes will focus on finalists from the UK and Ireland, who are each put through driving, physical and mental challenges designed to show the commitment it takes to become a modern day professional racing driver.

"The programme discovers who has the winning mentality and who will crack under the intense pressure," read a press release from ITV.
