Splinter Cell: Blacklist release delayed to August

Ubisoft Toronto sequel gets confirmed date

Ubisoft has announced that the Splinter Cell: Blacklist release date will fall on August 20, 2013.

The release was confirmed via way of a new trailer, and represents a delay from the previously pencilled Spring 2013 release window.

Labelled "the most ambitious Splinter Cell" yet, Blacklist sees Sam Fisher (now voiced by actor Eric Johnson) as leader of the newly formed 4th Echelon unit: a clandestine unit that answers solely to the President of the United States.

The game is the first title developed by Ubisoft Toronto and will feature single player, co-op and Spies vs. Mercenaries modes. There's still no word on the rumoured Wii U version of the game, which was listed online by US retailer Best Buy last year.

Ubisoft has recently confirmed that actor Tom Hardy will play Sam Fisher in a forthcoming film adaptation of the Splinter Cell series.

Eric Singer, whose previous work includes The International, will write the screenplay for the Hollywood film. Ubisoft is currently in talks with several studios including Warner Bros. and Paramount.
