A Microsoft spokesperson confirmed to The Verge that the Surface Pro tablet will carry about 23GB of total usable storage. The missing 41GB is believed to be accumulated from the Windows 8 operating system, as well as built-in apps and a recovery partition.

Customers can free up some space by deleting or reducing the recovery partition space, Microsoft added, or attach external drives via USB.

Microsoft's Surface Pro tablet is due for release in the US on February 9th.

No UK release date has been announced.
