New Sony patent points to HDMI compatibility for Vita

Will also gain a USB port

Sony has filed a patent for what appears to be a next-generation Vita, which adds new HDMI and USB connectivity.

The patent, which was published February 7 but first filed in Q3 2012, adds connectors that Sony says are "for connceting the electronic apparatus to peripheral apparatuses". Both new connectors will feature on the bottom of the console.

According to Patent Bolt, the alleged new Vita will also gain a power supply connector "described as a parallelepiped connector".

It's been suggested the device could simply be an iteration of the Vita dev kit, but Sony has so far not offered comment.

The reported patent comes after Sony's admission that they need to do a better job promoting Vita, in the wake of cut sales targets due to 'slow market penetration'.
