The first game in Bungie's new IP Destiny "may well ship in 2013", according to Cowen & Company analyst Doug Creutz.
While Activision's financial guidance for its current fiscal year ending December 31 2013 initially led the industry watcher to forecast a 2014 release for the Bungie project, the news that the studio is planning a Destiny reveal this Sunday has swayed his opinion.
"We had been expecting a 2014 ship date for the title, given management's highly cautious 2013 guidance and the timing of the upcoming console cycle," Creutz said in an investor note today. "However, we think a reveal this early in the year indicates that the title may well ship during 2013.
"If the title does ship this year, we believe it is likely that management's FY13 guidance and current street estimates will prove to be conservative, as we would expect the title to be one of the top-selling games of the year.
"We also note that the game has been indicated to have some sort of ongoing digital revenue stream; whether this indicates a subscription or something else remains unclear."
Last night Bungie said: "In a matter of days, we're going to give you your first glimpse into the vision and ambition that's driving the creation of our brave new world."
