Wii Mini hits the UK on March 22

Launching alongside new budget Nintendo Selects games

Nintendo will launch Wii Mini in the UK on March 22.

Released in Canada last year, the cheaper, compact console has no internet connectivity options or GameCube support, but is compatible with 1,200 disc-based Wii games and supports "most" Wii accessories.

The flat resting system features a manual release top-loading disc tray, comes in matte black with a red border, and is packaged with the Wii sensor bar and a red MotionPlus controller and Nunchuk. UK pricing has yet to be confirmed.

To coincide with the UK launch, Nintendo will add Mario Party 8, Wii Sports Resort, Mario Power Tennis and Super Paper Mario to the existing range of Nintendo Selects budget titles.

Nintendo launched Wii Mini last December in Canada, where the console retails for $100 (£64). Nintendo did not provide a UK RRP today.

At the time, Nintendo UK's head of consumer marketing told CVG: "We have no plans to launch it in the UK. Our focus here is all about Wii U."

Lifetime Wii sales are approaching 100 million units.
