Crytek had a version of its visually intense shooter, Crysis 3, up and running on Wii U and it was close to release, according to studio boss Cevat Yerli.
In an interview with Venture Beat, Yerli admitted, "We did have Crysis 3 running on the Wii U. We were very close to launching it."
However, he went on, "But there was a lack of business support between Nintendo and EA on that. Since we as a company couldn't launch on the Wii U ourselves - we don't have a publishing license - Crysis 3 on Wii U had to die."
Yerli has previously spoken of EA's disinterest in publishing the game for Wii U. "There has been discussions between Nintendo and EA and Crytek, but the bottom line is that there is that there's not enough business drive in it," he told press in January.
While admitting that he'd "love" to see a Wii U version, "it's a purely business decision," said Yerli.
Crysis 3 is out now of PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. We called it "an enjoyable shooter elevated by staggering visuals" in our Crysis 3 review.
