BioWare San Francisco shut down

25 to 30 employees reportedly laid off

BioWare San Francisco has been shut down, leading to 25 to 30 redundancies, it has been reported.

The studio specialised in social versions of major titles, including Dragon Age: Legends on Facebook and the 2D edition of Mirror's Edge.

According to GamesRadar sources, EA considered maintaining the studio in California too expensive. The studio has operated under the BioWare label since 2011 and was previously known as EA2D.

The news follows layoffs at other EA studios in LA and Montreal. In an official statement last month, EA announced "adjustments to select development teams to align staff and skills against priority growth areas, including new technologies and mobile."
