Take-Two: a new GTA every two years would 'degrade the franchise'

Each new installment must offer something new

Releasing a new Grand Theft Auto game every two years would degrade the franchise, according to a Take-Two Interactive executive.

Speaking at the Wedbush Securities Conference (via Gamespot), Take-Two Interactive's chief operating officer Karl Slatoff outlined why Rockstar will not release GTA games on a fixed schedule.

"To us, that doesn't make sense, because Grand Theft Auto, every single time it comes out, is a brand new experience," Slatoff explained. "You can't possibly do that in two years.

"And if we did that, our product would fatigue and the franchise would degrade from a value perspective."

Slatoff's comments follow word from Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick last month that a "dual-generation launch" for Grand Theft Auto V is unlikely.
