Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D not developed by Retro Studios

Frequent collaborator Monster Games handling the conversion

Donkey Kong Country Returns Wii developer Retro Studios isn't handling the 3DS re-release, the Australian classification board has revealed.

Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D is being developed by Minnesota-based studio Monster Games. It previously collaborated with Nintendo on Pilotwings Resort for 3DS and the Excite series.

Nintendo has confirmed Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D will launch in Japan, Europe and North America this summer. It released a 3D trailer for the game on the 3DS eShop last month.

Retro Studios' last project was Mario Kart 7. Late last year, Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime said Retro is working on "fantastic projects" for Wii U.

In our Donkey Kong Country Returns review we said the game is "an impressive, worthy successor to the Super NES series".
