Eidos details Deus Ex: HR Director's Cut 'overhauled' boss changes

Redesigned level layouts, improved AI, multiple ways to win

The bosses in the new Wii U-bound Director's Cut edition of Deus Ex: Human Revolution are "now as they should have been," game designer Emile Pedneault has said.

Speaking with Joystiq, Pedneault detailed the ways in which Eidos Montreal and co-developer Straight Right have approached improving one of the original game's most criticised elements.

"We took them and completely rebuilt them. We couldn't change [the boss' character] model and the way they need to die because of the story telling, but we changed the level layout. We tweaked their AI and we've added tons of ways to deal with them," he said.

"You can deal with a boss fight in a stealth way, you can deal with a boss fight in a hacking way. We even have for each boss fight a way to kill them without firing a single bullet," he said, explaining why bosses will no require players to do more than just "throw every grenade in your inventory and just keep shooting".

The Wii U Director's Cut, confirmed on Wednesday, is being co-developed by Mass Effect Wii U studio Straight Right, and promises to deliver "a full slate" of GamePad features including touch-screen hacking, interactive map editing, augmented sniping, grenade throwbacks and "many other neural hub enhancements."

The Director's Cut will also include the entire Missing Link DLC chapter and pre-order mission Tongs's Rescue.
