Socom dev Slant Six suffers 'temporary layoffs'

Vancouver-based studio scales back with plans to rehire those affected

Socom and Resident Evil: Operation Raccoon City developer Slant Six has been hit with another round of redundancies, although the studio says they're "temporary".

"This necessary measure has been taken to reduce the size of our team and to decrease interim operating costs while we continue to negotiate new business," said a Slant Six representative in a statement to Games Industry.

"Temporary layoffs provide us with a time period to keep everyone's employment position open with full benefits. The intention is to reinstate all of the people affected when new projects or funding has been secured."

The number of employees affected by the layoffs went undisclosed, although the rep noted that there were over 60 employees before the cuts.

Similar temporary cuts were made in June last year following the release of Operation Raccoon City. GI notes that only 'a portion' of the affected employees were rehired.

Slant Six has in recent months transitioned from console to smartphone development, having released The Bowling Dead for iOS and co-developed Galactic Reign for Windows Phone devices, and is preparing for the iOS, Android and Kindle release of Max's Pirate Planet - A Board Game Adventure.
