Original Mario Bros. bound for Japanese 3DS eShop

Iconic platformer goes portable with Virtual Console release

Japanese 3DS owners will be able to download the original Mario Bros. game via the 3DS eShop from next week.

The iconic old-school platformer has been given the 3DS Virtual Console treatment and will be released in Japan on May 8 for 500 Yen, according to Siliconera translations.

While there's no word on a Western release, its arrival on the Japanese 3Shop certainly signals its imminent arrival in other regions.

The Virtual Console service - which allows the download and play of classic games - recently launched for Wii U with a small selection of NES and Super NES titles including F-Zero and Punch-Out!!.
