Lords of Shadow 2 details: Dracula's power, Void and Chaos magic

Plus: more varied boss battles, teleporters replace mission summaries

Fresh details about Konami and MercurySteam's Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 have been published by Official PlayStation Magazine UK and Official Xbox Magazine UK.

The details offer more information on the game's narrative, as well as gameplay additions, tweaks and changes.

Here's the full list:

  • Lords of Shadow 2 will be the concluding chapter in the reboot
  • Anchor points will be highlighted only if players want them to be and won't be apparent on harder levels at all
  • Transitions between environments are seamless
  • Teleporters, much like in Igarashi's Castlevania titles, replace mission summaries
  • One boss encounter was described as longer but more varied than those in the original
  • Players have free camera control. When left alone the camera behaves similarly to in the last game
  • The Combat Cross has been replaced with the Blood Whip, but the two are very similar in function and gameplay
  • Like the Cross, the Whip covers a large range of the screen and can be used to string light and heavy attacks together for combos
  • Magic has been replaced with Dracula's Blood. This doesn't regenerate, but can be earned through killing enemies
  • Evasion, blocks and counters top up the Focus gauge. When full, blood erupts from enemies on impact
  • Taking damage empties the focus meter
  • Light magic has been replaced by the Void, and Dark Magic is now called Chaos
  • In addition to the Whip, the Void Sword allows players to regain health with attacks, while the Chaos Claws can break shields
  • Dracula can glamour mortals to seize control of them and take mist form for stealth, or to pass through grating to access hidden areas

Series producer Dave Cox has said there's "no chance" of Castlevania: Lords of Shadow 2 releasing on Wii U.
