Wii U system update 3.0.1 released

Improves system stability and compatibility with certain software

Nintendo has launched Wii U system system update 3.0.1E.

NeoGAF users report being prompted to download the update which, according to Nintendo, improves system stability and compatibility with certain software.

The platform holder says: "Performing a system update may take an extended amount of time (for some users it could take an hour or more to download and install). Do not power off your console or remove the Wii U AC adapter during this time."

Last month, Nintendo released a major Wii U system update designed to improve loading times. It also paved the way for the launch of the Wii U Virtual Console.

Another significant Wii U system update designed to boost the console's overall performance is due to go live by summer's end.

Nintendo held its latest Direct webcast last week, during which it showcased Wii U games set for release this spring and summer. The platform holder revealed European release dates for The Wonderful 101 and Pikmin 3, announced Wii U and 3DS exclusive Sonic: Lost World and confirmed a retail release for New Super Luigi U, among other announcements.

Nintendo's next Direct presentation, which is scheduled to take place before E3 next month, will feature Smash Bros, a new 3D Mario game and Mario Kart for Wii U.
