Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII delayed until February 2014

New release date confirmed in fresh trailer

Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII's release date has been delayed until February 11, 2014 in North America and February 14 Europe.

Square Enix announced the PS3 and Xbox 360 game in September 2012, when it revealed plans to launch the title in 2013.

The new release date was confirmed at the end of a fresh trailer today. It shows Lightning, the heroine of the trio of Final Fantasy XIII titles, sporting a new look, and squaring off against former ally Snow Villiers.

Square Enix has released new artwork and screenshots from the game to accompany the trailer, offering a better look at the two characters as well as some of the enemies in the game.

Lightning Returns was revealed at the Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event and is being billed as the last entry in the "Lightning saga".

Square Enix is preparing to reveal "the future of Final Fantasy" during a press conference on June 11. It is expected to show more of Lightning Returns in addition to Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. Hopefully it will also break its silence

Additionally, the publisher appears set to break its long silence on Final Fantasy Versus XIII and reveal a new Final Fantasy game for PS4.
