In May, Rovio launched a new publishing business called 'Rovio Stars'. The initiative will debut with Nitrome-developed Icebreaker: A Viking Voyage.
According to director of development Kalle Kaivola, Rovio Stars is "focusing on a small, select number of games, and each Rovio Stars launch will be an event of its own."
Rovio Stars EVP Jami Laes said the new initiative is intended to guide users to quality games in a flooded market. "We want to help our fans find quality entertainment among the more than 100,000 games available in the app stores."
Angry Birds has become one of the most popular phone and tablet game franchises, with 30 million downloads racked up over the 2012 Christmas week alone. The series will spawn a film adaptation in 2016.
