Nearly forty screenshots of Grasshopper Manufacture's Killer Is Dead released on Monday, showing off some of the gruesome abilities the game's protagonist, Mondo Zappa, has at his disposal.
The latest game from Goichi Suda, Killer Is Dead is described as "part Killer7, part No More Heroes" and follows the exploits of 35 year-old company-man working as an executioner.
Although Suda has emphasised that Killer Is Dead is not a sequel to either of the two aforementioned games, he has said it will retain "the essence" of both.
The official description reads: "Killer is Dead is set in a not-so-distant future similar to, but not the same as, the world we know now. The player takes control of an executioner named Mondo Zappa who wields a Japanese sword in his right hand and brandishes interchangeable weapons in his left artificial arm. His ultimate goal is to execute various heinous criminals scattered around the world and beyond."
The Japanese Killer is Dead release date has been confirmed as August 1. The game is being published by Deep Silver in the UK (currently also scheduled for August) and Australia. Xseed Games will be publishing it in the States this summer.
Suda has confirmed Grasshopper Manufacture is using Unreal Engine 4 for next-gen titles.
"As a developer, we're heavily relying right now on Unreal Engine 4," he said. "That works really well with both systems - or in the sense that we could go either way."
