Insomniac Games has announced a new PS3 Ratchet & Clank game called Into the Nexus, following a Twitter tease yesterday.
The new single-player game is the first 'traditional' instalment in the Ratchet series since 2009's A Crack in Time, and is set for release on Sony's current-gen console this Christmas.
On the PlayStation Blog Insomniac promises "crazy" new weapons and gadgets that can manipulate gravity.
Community lead James Stevenson wrote: "We're excited to announce that Ratchet and Clank are returning this year with an all new original single-player epilogue to the Future games.
"Under the creative direction of Tools of Destruction and A Crack in Time creative director Brian Allgeier, Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus is a story-driven platform adventure, with the humor and heart that make the franchise so beloved."
According to an IGN preview, Into the Nexus begins with Ratchet and Clank transporting twin villains Vendra and Neftin Prog to a location known as the Vartax Detention Center.
It says: "This voyage brings our favorite lombax-and-robot duo to haunted space, however, and while in the process of bringing his foes to lock-up, they escape Ratchet's grasp. This leaves Ratchet and Clank alone and stranded in the scariest sector of space they've ever visited."
Some of the new weapons revealed so far include the Repulsor, which leaves enemies suspended in midair when deployed, and the Winterizer, which transforms all enemies it hits into snowmen.
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus will release both at retail and on the PlayStation Network with a US RRP of $29.99.
