Worldwide Heavy Rain sales have cleared three million units since the game released on PS3 in February 2010.
The sales milestone was announced on Twitter by Quantic Dream co-CEO Guillaume de Fondaumiere.
de Fondaumiere said in April that Heavy Rain grossed $100 million for publisher Sony.
Quantic Dream founder and Heavy Rain director David Cage said last August that publisher Sony has given him "total freedom" to pursue his ideas.
He said: "Many publishers, after the success of Heavy Rain, would have said,
'Well, you need to do Heavy Rain 2. And do what you want, but it's going to be called Heavy Rain 2.' And we never had this conversation with Sony. They just asked me, 'What's next? What do you want to do?' 'Well, I have this idea, what do you think?' 'Yeah. It looks great!'"
Sony has confirmed a Beyond: Two Souls release date of October 8 in the US and October 11 in the UK.
My 100's tweet is a little celebration: Heavy Rain passes the 3 million sales mark worldwide. A big thank you to all those supporting us!— G de Fondaumiere (@GdeFondaumiere) August 19, 2013
