Gran Turismo 6 release date is December 6, movie confirmed

Full length feature film produced by Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti

Sony has confirmed that Gran Turismo 6 will launch globally on the PS3 on December 6.

Sony CEO Jim Ryan also today confirmed that Sony Pictures is working on a full length Gran Turismo feature film.

Confirming a previous report, Ryan reveal that the flick is in the hands of Fifty Shades of Grey producers Michael De Luca and Dana Brunetti, who also previously worked together on the Facebook movie, The Social Network. No release window was announced.

Ryan made the announcements during Sony's Gamescom press briefing today, where the firm showed a new Gran Turismo 6 video featuring concept cars, some of which will be produced in real life by car manufacturers.

In a follow-up announcement, Sony revealed that developer Polyphony has partnered with a number of major car manufacturers, whose design teams will create concept cars that will offer "a unique insight into the future of the automotive sector", and will be featured as playable cars in GT6.

Partnered firms include Alfa Romeo, Alpine, Aston Martin, Audi, BMW, Bertone, GM Design, Honda, Infiniti, Italdesign Giugiaro, JORDAN Brand, Mercedes-Benz, Nike, Nissan, Peugeot, SRT(Chrysler), Volkswagen and Zagato.

The cars will be released "from 2013 to 2014" as "gifted" DLC to all owners of the game (which we assume means for free).

According to Sony, "This opens up an entire new world of future automotive design as before you would just see and read about it online, but now you'll actually be part of the experience firsthand in Gran Turismo 6."

The firm has also nailed down pre-order deals for the game. A previously announced 'four-Car pre-order pack' is now a five-car pre-order pack, adding the SRT Viper GTS to the previously confirmed cars, GT-R NISMO GT3, Model S Signature Performance, Corvette Stingray (C7) and the R8 LMS ultra, as shown in the video below.
