Minecraft announced for PlayStation 4

Build-em-up sensation no longer Xbox exclusive

Sony and Mojang have announced Minecraft for PlayStation 4, which will be available at launch.

Update: Minecraft creator Markus 'Notch' Persson and Sony's Adam Boyes have confirmed the game will also be available for PS3 and PS Vita.

Original story: The hit build-em-up was previously only available on Microsoft consoles, having released for Xbox 360 in 2012, and announced for Xbox One earlier this year.

To date, Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition has sold more than eight million copies, according to developer 4J Studios.

No details on the PS4 update were provided, although when Microsoft announced Minecraft for Xbox One it promised "bigger worlds" and "more multiplayer".

We said in our Minecraft: Xbox 360 review: "Whether you're mining, crafting, building, or fighting - either alone, or with friends - there's nothing quite like Minecraft. An accomplished, streamlined port that's a perfect fit for Xbox 360."
