The latest iPhone models have enjoyed a record launch, according to Apple.
Sales of the two new models, iPhone 5s and its entry-level companion 5c, topped nine million units during their first three days of availability.
"This is our best iPhone launch yet, a new record for first weekend sales," said Apple CEO Tim Cook.
"The demand for the new iPhones has been incredible, and while we've sold out of our initial supply of iPhone 5s, stores continue to receive new iPhone shipments regularly. We appreciate everyone's patience and are working hard to build enough new iPhones for everyone."

Apple also said today that over 200 million iOS devices are now running the new iOS 7, making the mobile operating system "the fastest software upgrade in history".
In August, Apple reported a second consecutive drop in quarterly profits despite a significant increase in iPhone sales.
During the three months ended June 29, iPhone sales came in at 31.2 million, compared to 26 million a year earlier.
