UK Chart: FIFA 14 takes top spot from GTA 5

Launch week sales fall short of FIFA 13's record breaking opening

FIFA 14 has claimed the top spot on the UK all formats chart, knocking Grand Theft Auto 5 down to No.2.

According to retail monitor Chart-Track, FIFA 14 launch week sales were down 24 per cent compared to FIFA 13's record breaking opening week.

The firm suggests this may be due to all the cash splashed on GTA 5 last week, when Rockstar's title became the fastest selling UK game in history, as well as the upcoming console hardware transition, with some players holding out for Xbox One and PS4 versions of the football game.

Minecraft: Xbox 360 Edition, PES 2014 and The Last of Us rounded off the top five, followed by Disney Infinity, Splinter Cell: Blacklist, Saints Row 4, Diablo 3 and Rayman Legends.

CVG said in its FIFA 14 review: "It's such a ludicrously comprehensive sports game, where any one mode could easily see you through to next season, that the small and clumsy steps it takes backwards courtesy of Precision Movement do little to spoil the party. Slightly slower and a little worn out in the legs, FIFA 14 is still king."
