Sonic joins Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS roster - trailer

Sega's mascot returns for another round

Nintendo has revealed that Sonic will feature in 2014's Wii U and 3DS Super Smash Bros. game.

The blue blur was revealed as the latest Smash Bros. guest character during a Nintendo Direct stream today. A new trailer shows Sonic trading blows with Nintendo's finest.

Smash Bros. series creator Masahiro Sakurai is serving as producer on the game, which is a Wii U and 3DS crossover being developed in partnership with Namco Bandai.

In September, Nintendo revealed that Toon Link, who made his debut in Super Smash Bros. Brawl, will return for the latest series entry.

The debut Super Smash Bros Wii U trailer revealed Capcom's Mega Man and Animal Crossing's villager will be playable for the first time in the series. Wii Fit Trainer will make her series debut too.

Nintendo has also confirmed a a Pilotwings stage, while Captain Olimar from Pikmin and Princess Peach will be returning characters.
