Plants Vs Zombies 2 soft launched on Android

Game released in Australia and New Zealand ahead of full global launch "soon"

PopCap has released the Android version of Plants vs. Zombies 2 in Australia and New Zealand.

The Android edition of the free-to-play title debuted in Japan last month and will be released globally "shortly", PopCap says.

Guided by returning neighbour Crazy Dave, the sequel again sees players using plants to defend themselves against waves of zombies from their backyard, but this time the settings span the reaches of time, both past and future.

Plants vs. Zombies 2 features new touchscreen power-ups that let players interact with zombies directly, as well as plant food that lets them supercharge plants for more powerful attacks.

PopCap says the game has been designed from the ground up as a "live service", with new worlds, levels, plants, zombies and ways to play set to be released on an ongoing basis.

Following a soft launch in Australia and New Zealand in July, the iOS version of the game launched globally in August. It has been downloaded appoximately 25 million times.
