An enhanced version of Final Fantasy VI will be released for iOS and Android in the next season, Square Enix has confirmed.
Described as a modified version, the title will release in Winter (or Summer in the southern hemisphere) according to Square Enix director and producer Takashi Tokita.
"It is basically like a remake of the original VI," Tokita told Kotaku. "But there have been some enhancements."
Tokita said some battle elements will change compared to the original in keeping with the publisher's previous approach to Final Fantasy phone and tablet remakes.
"For instance grinding was an issue and people had to spend a lot of time leveling up. Now on the mobile devices the battle systems have been adjusted so you don't have to fight as much and can enjoy the game for what it is.
The news follows confirmation last month that Final Fantasy IV: The After Years will also release this Winter. It's the latest in a long stretch of Final Fantasy phone and tablet conversions.
Final Fantasy VII may also make the leap to iOS and Android, according to Tokita. "If this Legacy project works out well, we would like to one day be able to work with VII," he said.
