Zelda Wind Waker HD release boosts UK Wii U sales

Nintendo "has long believed that software sells hardware"

The release of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD helped drive a 685 per cent increase in weekly Wii U hardware sales in the UK, according to Nintendo.

"We have long believed that software sells hardware and it's great to see that reaffirmed this week," Nintendo UK head of consumer marketing James Honeywell told MCV.

Nintendo released a Wii U Wind Waker hardware bundle earlier this month. The game itself debuted at No.4 on the latest UK all formats all prices chart behind GTA 5, FIFA 14 and F1 2013.

A Lego City Undercover hardware bundle is due to launch later this month.

And on Thursday, Nintendo announced plans to release three new Wii U bundles in the UK in November. The first will pack in New Super Mario Bros. U and New Super Luigi U, the second Wii Party U and Nintendo Land, and the third Just Dance 2014 and Nintendo Land.
