Telltale Games is developing a Game of Thrones episodic series planned for 2014, the studio revealed at VGX on Saturday.
The series is based on the HBO program but will take advantage of the book series' fiction as well, Telltale Games said. The studio did not mention potential platforms, nor which characters or even time period the series will focus on.
Though the gameplay will be largely familiar to fans of Telltale adventures, it wouldn't be Game of Thrones without massive battles, Telltale said.
Reports circulated in late November that the studio behind The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us episodic adventures would tackle George R.R. Martin's fantasy series as its next licensed product.
In 2012 developer Cyanide and US publisher Atlus released a Game of Thrones title, receiving mostly negative reviews. Online specialist Bigpoint is also working its own virtual take on TV series, with its free-to-play MMORPG Game of Thrones: Seven Kingdoms. It released its first trailer in July.
Telltale Games is also working on a new Borderlands spin-off, Tales from the Borderlands, in collaboration with Gearbox Software, the studio confirmed at VGX.
