UK 3DS sales top 2 million units

Nintendo's handheld console reaches a new milestone

UK 3DS sales have surpassed two million units.

The figure was revealed by trade publication MCV and combines sales of 3DS, 3DS XL and the new 2DS.

The site also says the two million sales milestone was reached faster by the handheld console's predecessor, the original DS.

Nintendo said in October that 3DS sales in the first half of the company's financial year totalled 3.89 million units, compared to 5.06 million during the same period the year before.

The company is offering free digital copies of Super Mario 3D Land to European customers as part of a 3DS promotion. To be eligible to request a free download code, 3DS owners must register their handheld, along with one of 15 games, with Club Nintendo by January 13, 2014.

Participants can redeem their code and download the game to any 3DS, 3DS XL or 2DS before March 13, 2014. Hardware and games purchased before November 27 but not already registered with Club Nintendo are eligible for the promotion.
