id Software has launched a standalone client for Quake Live.
The new launcher, available now via the official website, liberates the classic multiplayer shooter from the restrictions and endless compatibility issues of its previous state as a browser-only title.
"With the new client, the Quake Live team can dedicate more time to updating in-game features without the worry of how ever-evolving web browsers will affect gameplay and performance," explains the developer.
Despite its standalone offering, Quake Live will remain a free-to-play game, with no changes to its current subscription model.
All player data and profiles will make the jump to the standalone version of the game.
