Disney Infinity sales pass 3 million worldwide

Named the 10th best selling retail game in US in 2013

Disney had told the New York Times that it has sold over 3 million copies of the Disney Infinity Starter Pack since its launch last summer.

The firm launched its Skylanders challenger in US on August 18 for Xbox 360, PS3, Wii U, Wii, PC and 3DS, with a Starter Pack priced at $74.99.

The game enjoyed a successful launch, selling around 294,000 copies in its first two weeks on sale in US, according to a Disney announcement in September.

The game went on to become the 10th best-selling retail game in US in 2013, according to NPD figures released earlier this week. Its main rival, Skylanders SWAP Force, which didn't release until October, didn't make the list, but was a top-10 seller for December.

In CVG's Disney Infinity review we said: "Add-on costs aside, Disney Infinity is a treat. It is blanketed with ideas and Disney references that will keep older and younger gamers busy for far longer than the more linear Skylanders could, and while the Toy Box mode isn't exactly going to have Minecraft shaking in its cuboid boots, its sillier nature (does Minecraft have a toilet paper gun?) makes it just as entertaining at times."
