Square Enix has released an SNES-styled retrospective trailer for Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII.
The trailer uses the familiar sprite and menu design of Final Fantasy VI to retell the major events of Final Fantasy XIII and Final Fantasy XIII-2, getting players up to speed with the complex web of transformations and time travel which led to the apocalyptic state of the world in Lightning Returns.
A Lightning Returns demo is available on PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. In it players can explore the Yusnaan province, get a feel for its real-time combat system, and unlock an exclusive Siegfried outfit by sharing their scores on social network service Outerworld.
Lightning Returns was revealed at 2012's Final Fantasy 25th anniversary event. It released in Japan in late 2013, beating Super Mario 3D World to No.1 on the software chart.
The Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII release date has been confirmed as February 11, 2014 in North America and February 14 in Europe.
Square Enix released Final Fantasy VI on Android in mid-January. It features reconfigured touch controls and an updated graphical style.
