Nintendo will revive titles from the original DS software catalogue via Virtual Console releases for Wii U, the company confirmed Wednesday.
Nintendo president Satoru Iwata said during an investors meeting that the firm had 'overcome technical hurdles' to enable it to bring DS Virtual Console titles to the big screen with Wii U.
"The dual-screen Nintendo DS, one of which is a touch screen, has a very strong software lineup, and so we plan to add the Virtual Console titles from Nintendo DS software to the future Virtual Console lineup for Wii U," confirmed Iwata.
The exec made no mention of a launch date, saying only that it was in the firm's "future" plans.
It is expected that the Virtual Console will make use of the Wii U GamePad to emulate the lower touch screen of the DS, with upper screen video displayed on the TV.
Currently, Virtual Console titles from the NES and Super NES catalogues are available via Wii U.
